Car deregistration (Abmeldung) costs €30 with us, including the government fee, if we do not need to meet. If someone comes to you, for example to uncover the security codes, it is €50. We also deregister cars with plates from outside Berlin.1 Call or WhatsApp us in English.
- We are a private registration service, not the authority.
- Over 5 years of experience in vehicle registration
- Cost €30, or €50 with help on site
- What we need registration certificate part I and plates
- Payment cash or bank transfer
Deregistering a car with Zulassungsheld costs €30 including the government fee, or €50 with help on site. All we need is your registration certificate part I and the licence plates; the authority does not ask for a power of attorney, because whoever presents all the documents is deemed authorised.2 You don't need to go to the authority, and afterwards it informs your insurer and the main customs office itself.2 You pay in cash or by bank transfer. We only start once you have explicitly agreed.
Not sure whether you need us? Send us photos via WhatsApp – we will tell you honestly.
Deregister your car yourself or with our help?
Honestly: deregistration is the simplest process, and you can deregister a Berlin-registered car online yourself, for €3.30 at the authority.2
We are worth it if appointments and German forms are too much, if you are unsure about uncovering the codes, or if your car is not registered in Berlin. An uncovered code invalidates the document or plate seal; if the online application then fails, the car is still not deregistered.3 A common mistake from our practice: the codes are rubbed off too hard; then they are unreadable, and deregistration only works on site. The authority asks for the code on the registration certificate part I (Fahrzeugschein) to be uncovered “completely and carefully”.3 To avoid this, we uncover the codes for you if you wish, with help on site for €50.
Documents and plates we need
For deregistration, the Berlin authority asks only for the application, the registration certificate part I and the plates:2
- registration certificate part I (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I, “Fahrzeugschein”), with the trailer list if there is one
- both licence plates – one for a motorcycle or trailer4
- application for deregistration (Außerbetriebsetzung) – we fill it in
- only for cars registered before 2005: the old vehicle papers (Fahrzeugschein and Fahrzeugbrief)
No power of attorney is needed: whoever presents all the documents is deemed authorised.2 5 Something missing? See lost papers below.
How we deregister your car, step by step
With Zulassungsheld, there are two ways: without a visit for €30 or with help on site for €50.
Without a visit: €30
You write on WhatsApp or call.
You send photos of the registration certificate part I and the plates; we check whether it works online.
Online, you uncover the security codes once we tell you and send them to us. Otherwise, you drop off the registration certificate and the plates at our shop in Wittenau.
We deregister your car, also with number plates from anywhere in Germany, and give you the proof.
With help on site: €50
You write or call, and we arrange the visit with you.
One of our experienced Zulassungsheld team members comes to you, for example to uncover the security codes. In our experience, older customers in particular book the visit, because uncovering the codes and taking photos can be tricky.
We deregister it and give you the proof.
Online, your car is usually deregistered the same day with us, also with plates from anywhere in Germany. Once deregistered, the car may no longer be driven or parked on public roads.2
From our practice: on 7 October 2026 at 7:41am, a customer got in touch who wanted to deregister a motor scooter before taking their son to nursery; the customer had the deregistration notice before arriving at the nursery (as reported by the owner of Zulassungsheld, 07.10.2026).
What deregistering costs: €30 or €50
Deregistration costs €30 at Zulassungsheld, including the government fee; if someone comes to you, it is €50. That includes the government fee, the application, the deregistration itself and the proof for you. The government fee in Berlin is €17.10 on site and €3.30 online.2 All prices are total prices including VAT; you can pay in cash or by bank transfer.
- Reserving your number to register the same car again later: the authority charges €2.60 on top of the deregistration fee.2
- A visit to you costs €50 instead of €30.
- We deregister a motorcycle, trailer, motorhome or truck at the same prices: €30, or €50 with help on site.
- Missing documents: the authority charges extra fees4; we tell you the fixed price in advance via WhatsApp – before we start.
Want to register another car afterwards? That costs €150 all-in, or €120 with your own plates: register a car.
Keeping your number
You can reserve your number when you deregister: for registering the same car again for up to 12 months, for another car for up to three months.2 4
- For another car, the reservation in the same step is only possible on site at the registration authority; online and at a citizens' office, only four days later via the personalised-number portal.2
- A number from outside Berlin cannot be reserved in Berlin.4
- There is no legal claim to a reserved number.2
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to bring the plates?
What if I lost the registration certificate?
You can still deregister the car, but only at the registration authority (Landesamt für Bürger- und Ordnungsangelegenheiten, LABO), with the ID of the person applying: for each missing document, you make a statutory declaration (eidesstattliche Versicherung), and the authority charges extra fees.4 If both plates are lost, a fee-based declaration is needed; after a theft, the police case number.4 In German: vehicle papers lost.
